January 2015 Favourites

Hello there interwebbers,

After taking a quick stab at blogging a few months back, I soon realized what hard work it was and promptly gave up. Now, once again fueled with New Year, New Me enthusiasm - I'm back! Hopefully this time, I'll stick it out a bit longer.. I'm going to start back with a January makeup favourites post. Which happens to be one of my favourite things to read and watch on other beauty blogs. So, let's get started...

Makeup

This month, I'm really loving the Laura Mercier 'radiance' foundation primer, this has literally won Holy Grail status in my books. And at 41e in Brown Thomas, it's not light on the purse, and is definitely on the pricier side when it comes to highlighters and primers but this is a purchase that you won't regret, and it's dual purpose, so win-win! As a primer, it works brilliantly keeping my makeup in place all day long, but it's the universal pearl tint which creates a soft focus effect, minimizing the look of imperfections and pores with a radiant finish that really sold it for me. This has a fab shimmer, that subtly reflects light and really illuminates your skin. This is a must-have for anyone who also appreciates a 'dewy' makeup finish.

Primer rubbed in and dry.

Another makeup item that I'm currently loving, not only this month but every month is the HD Brows palette in 'Vamp'. With eyebrows taking centre stage, there is no reason not to invest in this great little palette, which costs only 28e on beautybay.com (who also offer free delivery on orders over 13e!). This palette will definitely last you through 2015 as you only need a very small amount of product to get those brows 'on fleek', providing you don't drop it (as I foolishly did). The palette contains, a highlighter, two brows colours, a black brow definer, a setting wax and mirror. It also comes with a double ended brush, one side for applying the brow colours and highlighters, and the other end for the setting wax. Having all your eyebrow needs in one handy little palette, what more could a girl ask for?

Thanks to Kylie Jenner, and her amazing pout, we are all now lip, and subsequently lip-liner obsessed! Santa was very good to me this year, and got me the MAC Creme Cup, (which is described as a 'light blue pink' on the MAC website) and Faux  ('muted mauve pink' - apparently) lipsticks as well as the Subculture lip liner. Moral of the story is - I'm obsessed! 'Faux' is especially Kylie-esque and I'm in love, which is why it's landed in my favourites this month.

Finally, after a long time of sulking with Vichy for changing my much loved Dermablend foundation from water to oil based, I'm back and as hooked as ever! This full-coverage foundation is quite heavy in terms of coverage and not for those who are lucky enough to get away with a more natural foundation. However, it is great for those who want to cover any imperfections (i.e. redness, broken veins, pores, scarring or in my case - pesky freckles) flawlessly without that 'cakey' finish or feel and a little goes a long way with the deceptively small tube. As a bonus, this also lasts all day and has SPF 20. This is a high-end product without the high-end price tag, and can be bought in any good pharmacy nationwide for approximately 22e.

T.v.

This month I have been GLUED to Peaky Blinders on BBC Two, starring Killian Murphy and Tom Hardy - need I say more?! Based in 1920's post-war Birmingham, the show centres around the 'Peaky Blinders' a family of mobsters who run an illegal bookies. This amazing gangster drama, is one of the best things on Tv this year, and I'm already looking forward to Season 3! Check out the trailer for it here..

That's it for this months favourites, hope you enjoyed this post! I'd love to hear what you all are using and loving this month, so leave a comment below with your January favourites :)

Welcome!

Like all crazy good ideas, this one came to me at 5.15am when I was trying to sleep because I had work in three hours time. A friend of mine, probably tired of hearing me babble on about new makeup and the likes, that I had heard about, suggested that I should start a blog (maybe so that she and others didn't have to hear me go on, ha!).

Like a typical Irish girl, I immediately dismissed the idea and gave a list of reasons why I shouldn't and wouldn't be writing a blog. But last night, at 5.15am I read a post about 10 reasons TO write a blog, and I was sold. As easy as that - I don't take much persuasion as the ladies of BT know, ha! This idea was cemented, when after work, I read a little post in this month's Stellar magazine about five reasons to start a blog, and little than an hour later here I am - frantically typing!

I won't pretend to be any sort of expert, but I am very passionate about anything make-up, fashion or beauty related (among other things!),and I love following blogs, instagrammers and youtubers similar to this one! I love recommending beauty products and cosmetics to my friends and family, so I said why not share it with other like-minded individuals?! So, here it goes - welcome to my humble little blog, Beauty and the Blog.
